USAgain is an environmental for-profit group that was originally founded in 1999 in Seattle, Washington. Their objective is to recycle surplus items, especially clothing, by distributing them to developing nations outside the United States.

Items are first contributed by donors based in the United States, who drop them off at collection bins. Then the company engages enterprising individuals in struggling communities outside the USA in reselling donated items.

This is quite like what Goodwill does, although they maintain their own donation bins and thrift stores that accept donations as well.

With the aid of its partner non-profit Trees for the Future, a Maryland-based organization, USAgain plants a tree every time one of their bins is filled with clothes. USAgain claims to have planted over a million trees to date, mainly in tropical areas.

USAgain partners with other environmental advocacy groups in order to spread awareness of the benefits of reusing and recycling textiles. It is a member of several associations of professional recycling groups.

Some of the donations accepted in USAgain donation bins include garments, footwear, accessories, children’s clothes, linens, etc.

USAgain has 10 warehouse locations that regularly service their clothing boxes and collect donations.

The company’s headquarters are in Illinois – which has one of the highest concentrations of clothing bins in the USA. Besides Illinois, USAgain operates out of 14 other states: Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Wisconsin.
